Cisco's Cloud Collaboration Technology Group creates products and services that bring modern, high quality collaboration to everyone – spanning every room, desk, pocket and application. Industry leading products like Webex Teams, Webex Meetings and Cisco Meeting Server are examples of our technology in action.

Our collaboration team is responsible for the design, implementation, testing and deployment of leading-edge real-time media services, running both on customer sites and in cloud environments.

What you'll do

As part of a diverse team, you will play an integral part in our DevOps software engineering process. A successful candidate for this role can be flexible, quickly learning new skills and taking responsibility for tasks and features. You will be solving new problems and tackling new challenges every day, with a focus on quality and attention to detail, supported by a team of fellow engineers.

From your first week you will be fully embedded in a scrum team working on our code-base to deliver new features and improvements to our customers. You may be developing a new feature or a fully-automated test, investigating a problem, or using our test tools to ensure that our software is always high quality. The work is always varied and challenging.

You will be mentored by another engineer to help you quickly get up to speed, along with more formal talks and training to grow your knowledge and skills.

Our dream candidate

We are looking for talented individuals with:

  • A bachelor’s or higher degree in an analytical subject, such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics
  • Consistent track record of personal and academic achievements
  • Some experience of programming in Python, and willingness to learn a new programming language if necessary
  • Ability to apply a scientific approach to solving complex problems
  • Attention to detail
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Motivated by challenges and continuous learning
  • Ability to communicate clearly and precisely

Any of the following skills would be particularly advantageous, but we welcome applications without these:

  • Knowledge of programming in C/C++
  • Familiarity with Linux
  • Knowledge of networks and networking protocols (such as TCP/IP and HTTP)
  • Familiarity with virtualisation and containers (such as Docker)
  • Familiarity with audio or video encoding (such as Opus or H.264)
  • We provide training and mentoring for all new team members to fill in any gaps.

Who you’ll work with

The Cloud Collaboration Technology Group (CCTG) is part of a specialist centre for Cisco Collaboration Engineering located in the United Kingdom at Cisco EMEAR headquarters in Bedfont Lakes, Feltham.

You will work in an Agile team alongside other engineers, collaborating to create and test new features and continuously improve our products and tools. You will work alongside experts in media protocols, software design, software development and product testing, and you will assist them and learn from them. Your contributions will be reviewed by experienced team members to help you learn and to ensure continued high quality of our products.

As part of a wider team that spans the globe, you may find yourself working alongside Cisco engineers in Silicon Valley, Norway, Ireland, India, and China either remotely through our own collaboration technologies or in person through foreign travel.

What to expect from Cisco

We will offer you a competitive combination of compensation and benefits including:

  • A flexible working environment and hours
  • Continuous learning through training, stretch assignments and hackathons
  • 5 days for voluntary work and a day off on your birthday
  • A generous bonus and share options scheme, a good pension, benefits, insurances and of course the fortnightly sprint demos with pizza
  • A fun and talented group of people to work alongside
  • An opportunity to work with cutting-edge tech

Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do – you can’t put us in a box!

But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.
