Cisco’s Internet of Things Business Unit transforms critical industries and improves lives by bringing IT to the physical world to increase business resiliency and employee safety. The technical marketing team consists of highly motivated and hardworking engineers with a gift for explaining Cisco's IoT technologies, increasing customer adoption, and driving product development. We get to see the entire product and solution lifecycle from inception through development and on to customer deployment. We have close contact with customers, partners, sales, marketing, product management, and engineering, so we often see more of the puzzle than other roles.

Your Impact

As a Technical Marketing Engineer, you'll drive our technical direction and customer understanding of industrial switching.

  • Act as the expert for switching technologies in the fast-growing IoT industry.
  • Work within the diverse IoT TME team to support the wider spectrum of connectivity options, including SDA and embedded security with Cyber Vision sensors.
  • Serve as the regional expert for both industrial switching and the broader IoT portfolio within the APJC, AMER, EMEA, APJC 
  • Test new products/technologies in the lab. Lab coat optional.
  • Develop and publish demo and training collateral for our various marketing publication platforms, including Cisco.com, dCloud, DevNet, and SalesConnect.
  • Present at internal and external trade shows and conferences, such as Cisco Live!, SEVT, and Industry Events.
  • Educate Cisco and partner sales teams so they can accurately and confidently represent our products.
  • Work directly with partners and customers on deployment planning and proofs of concept in a pre-sales environment.
  • Identify gaps in our product portfolio and training material and then work with the rest of the team to address those needs.
  • Provide guidance to product management and engineering for required features and their use-cases. Use your experience to make this the best possible product.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of design and implementation experience with a deep understanding of Cisco switching technology and deployments, or extensive experience with industrial deployments.
  • 3+ years Cisco switching concepts and configuration. Familiarity with the IE family is great, but if you know the Enterprise Catalyst family you’ll be comfortable.
  • 1+ years experience public speaking

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of customer deployment challenges with Industrial IoT deployments in areas such as manufacturing, transportation, utilities, and connected communities.
  • Ability to understand and solve complex technical and business challenges while working independently. You want to be the expert in the room for your area.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills at a variety of technical and business levels.
  • Ability to work with engineering to dream up creative solutions to complex technical challenges to exceed customer expectations.
  • You get excited about learning new things, including products, technologies, architectures, and customer problems.
  • Enjoy working within a diverse Technical Marketing team with global responsibilities and a wide range of backgrounds.
  • You don’t mind sometimes working odd hours due to our IoT customers being spread around the globe.
  • Ability to distill complex technical concepts into understandable language.
  • Domestic and International Travel required up to ~25% of the time when travel is again permitted.

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.

Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter.  Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
