Who We Are

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team at Cisco drives the technology that is redefining the way IT departments secure their networks and, more importantly, their users. Infrastructure Engineers are a vital member of the team. They are responsible for the design, development, and operation of the platform services application teams rely on to deliver solutions to our customers. This is a small team that does big things. At its core, the team provides Infrastructure as a Service for Cisco Security products in dozens of our “edge” data centers.

Who You'll Work With

The experience of members on the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team is wide and multifaceted, allowing us to see multiple perspectives of any challenge that comes our way. We are a team that is supportive of learning and experimentation.

Your team may be composed of engineers who have come from a systems, software, and/or network engineering background all with the common goal of taking on the challenges the team may face.

We work closely with other Cisco Security product engineering teams building customer-facing security services by providing them with core Internet infrastructure and distributed services to help deliver their services effectively, efficiently, and reliably on a global scale.

The team invests heavily in continual improvement in automation and optimization. We are super focused on scale, stability, and resiliency. We take great pride in building and operating one of the most hyper-connected and highly optimized global Anycast networks in the world.

About you

As a technical leader on this team you will collaborate with engineers both on your team and others to drive the design, development, delivery, and support of new features and capabilities of the products and services offered by your team.

You will work through the entire lifecycle of infrastructure products and services, from conceptualisation to development to operation. These products and services will be used by millions of customers every day from around the world.

Some of the things you will work on:

  • Improve the operability and scalability of a highly available, globally distributed service discovery platform (thousands of systems across dozens of sites around the globe depend on this service)

  • Work on systems hosted both in Public Cloud as well as private datacenter

  • Be a driver in the design and implementation of solutions to help the team achieve its goals

  • Collaborate with product and infrastructure engineering teams to design solutions to enable them on the platform

The team could be a good fit for you if several of these apply to you:

  • You enjoy working on a multi-functional team that is responsible for the entire stack, thrive in an agile environment and are happy to teach/learn from your teammates.

  • You have some experience writing code. (enough to get the job done when you need it. Writing code isn't a requirement for this position)

  • You are interested in coming up with innovative solutions for complicated problems, and passionate about finding ways to do things better.

  • You enjoy solving complex problems at scale.

  • You enjoy working with partner teams to understand and solve problems together.

  • You take security seriously, and want others to do the same.

You could be a great fit for the team if several of these apply to you:

  • You have substantial experience building/operating/supporting production-grade globally distributed products, services, and/or platforms used by millions of people (e.g. SaaS/PaaS/IaaS type offerings)

  • You have experience with HashiCorp's Consul and how to deploy and operate it at scale. (or like experience with alternatives in the space such as etcd, zk, etc)

  • You have worked with kubernetes (or other container orchestration systems) in a production environment.

  • You know your way around Linux (or any flavor of UNIX) and have experience investigating and resolving issues related to scale/performance/etc.

  • You have designed and deployed highly available production services using public cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, or Azure)

  • You are all about CI/CD and how to manage highly distributed services at scale.

  • You have experience working with tools such as Ansible or Terraform that promote thinking about infrastructure as code.

  • You possess an understanding of networking basics (understand the OSI model, routing, firewalls, IP)

Our interview process:

One of the aspects of job searching that’s always nerve wrecking is the interview process. To help reduce that stress, our process is fairly straightforward and we aim to be as transparent as possible with it. The process is as follows:

  • 30-minute call with the hiring manager

  • 3 hours of interviews with the team remotely

  • 1 collaborative coding assessment

Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference, powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do – you can’t put us in a box!

But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take differences to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!
