As a Technical Consulting Engineer Co-Op supporting our Customer Experience Centers, you'll work on leading-edge technology with a keen focus on enabling Cisco’s global customers to achieve successful business outcomes. You will join a cohort of engineers to build your technical expertise, learn Cisco specific technologies and make a direct, positive, impact on our customers. You will collaborate with and learn from industry-leading engineers in the areas of network infrastructure, collaboration, security, mobility, and cloud. At Cisco, we value your ideas and perspective. We encourage you to innovate and push boundaries.

What You’ll Do

The Technical Consulting Engineer Co-Op is broken down into two phases of 3 months each.

In the first phase, you’ll get hands-on experience with next-generation technology in Cisco’s Advanced Labs. You'll collaborate with our Support Services engineers to recreate customer networks in the lab, using these recreates to tackle our customers’ most trying technical problems. Duties include:

  • Build networks consisting of an array of Cisco equipment every day
  • Monitor and track network recreate requests
  • Support the lab infrastructure
  • Collaborate with peers and mentor new co-ops
  • Receive on-the-job training and build your skills as you earn industry-leading certifications (expected to receive CCNA by the end of the co-op term)

In the second phase, you will work directly with Cisco’s customers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues they’re experiencing with their Cisco products and services. Duties include:

  • Ensure our customers are able to fully utilize Cisco services by solving technical issues and preventing costly down time.
  • Craft technical documents to build Cisco's intellectual property and technical knowledge base
  • Engage with wide, diverse customer base to help users get the most from their technology
  • Automate the process of finding and fixing common problems in Cisco’s products

Minimum requirements

  • You are actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a technical field, such as Networking, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Computer Engineering or a similar field
  • You have the ability to work full-time hours in our Research Triangle Park, North Carolina location for 6 months.

  • Cisco or industry certifications a plus

We Are Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference. Here’s how we do it.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (30 years strong!) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. A blockchain company. An AI/Machine Learning company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do – you can’t put us in a box!

But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, we give our egos a break and we give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, we take bold steps, and we take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a commitment to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!
