Meet the Team

The US Commercial Solutions Engineering team is a dynamic and highly experienced group of professionals supporting $6B+ business across the United States. Comprising seasoned experts in Solutions Engineering, this team is pivotal in driving growth and maintaining robust client relationships.  This team also interfaces with dedicated, supporting organizations including Specialist AEs & SEs, Service AEs, Marketing, Channels, CX, and many others.

The Solutions Engineer will lead the design, proposal, and technical selling of solutions for Stadiums, Arenas and Large Public Venues projects with an extensive focus on indoor and outdoor wireless solutions and technology.  This role is critical in delivering innovative, scalable, and high-performance wireless networks tailored to the unique demands of outdoor environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in networking and a proven track record of designing wireless solutions for large, high-density venues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Solution Design and Architecture:
    • Design high-density wireless network solutions tailored for outdoor stadiums, ensuring optimal performance, coverage, and reliability.
    • Assess Stadiums, Arenas and Large Public Venues layouts, environmental challenges, and audience capacity to recommend the best-fit wireless technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi 6/6E, Wi-Fi 7, private 5G, DAS, etc.).
    • Conduct site surveys using tools like Ekahau or AirMagnet to evaluate coverage requirements and interference risks.
  2. Pre-Sales Support:
    • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements and develop customized technical proposals.
    • Create detailed design documentation, including network topology, RF plans, equipment lists, and solution overviews.
    • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and demonstrations to customers, addressing technical questions and objections.
    • Partner with BE, Eco Systems partners, and customers to create Cisco Validated Designs (CVD) for use across all of USC
  3. Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Act as a trusted advisor to customers, offering guidance on best practices for wireless network design and deployment.
    • Collaborate with internal teams & partners to ensure alignment on solution design and implementation.
  4. Technical Expertise:
    • Provide deep technical expertise on wireless technologies, including RF principles, network security, performance optimization, and integration with other systems including Campus & Data Center networking solutions.
    • Troubleshoot design challenges and propose innovative solutions for high-density, high-interference environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in wireless network design, implementation, or pre-sales engineering.
  • Proven experience in designing wireless solutions for s Stadiums, Arenas and Large Public Venues or other large outdoor venues.
  • Hands-on experience with wireless planning tools (e.g., Ekahau, iBwave, AirMagnet).
  • Track record of successful customer engagements, including presentations and technical workshops. 
  • Extensive skills and knowledge in Wi-Fi design and management including RF, 5G, Wi-Fi 7, controller-based architectures, secure access (certificates, authentication, guest portal integration, software defined access).
  • Understanding of RF principles, antenna design, and propagation modeling.
  • Ability to travel for customer presentations, site surveys and solutions deployments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS/BA (preferably EE/CS) or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Cisco networking solutions (e.g., Cisco Catalyst, Meraki, Nexus) and related products is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of network security protocols and standards (e.g., WPA3, RADIUS, 802.1X).
  • Knowledge in Automation (Python, API), Orchestration and Programmability technologies
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a collaborative approach to solution development.
  • Relevant industry certifications are a plus:
    • Cisco Wireless certifications a plus (CCIE, CCNP, Devnet)
    • Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) or CWNE.
    • Ekahau Certified Survey Engineer (ECSE).
    • Any 5G-related certifications (optional but beneficial).

For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter.  Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
