We’re an agile, fun, passionate upstart culture within Cisco—balancing collaboration and integration with autonomy and innovation—to deliver the most effective solution to our customers’ problems. The unique mix of our disruptive approach to security and Cisco’s industry dominance surpasses what any other security startup could ever achieve on its own.
Who you’ll work with
Are you looking to scale up your leadership to the challenges of a multi-billion-dollar business? On the Cisco Umbrella team, our goal is to protect our users from all the bad things on the internet, and we need your help to continue delivering value while retaining the dynamic and inclusive culture of a startup. We have an amazing group of 8-12 software engineers across all experience levels that is capable of shipping new features to customers every single day. With you as their dedicated leader, you can make sure they are always free from roadblocks and have the right long-term roadmap in place. You’ll also be joining a team of other Engineering Managers that collaborates closely, shares resources, and maintains a fun and supportive environment.
What you’ll do
Your mission is to lead your team(s) in implementing new features and improvements to the Cisco Umbrella cloud service, impacting how thousands of users configure their internet security every day. This includes customer-facing UI work as well as backend microservices and internal support tools; whatever a particular enhancement requires, you’re in charge of the entire stack. You'll partner with Product Management to define our roadmap, collaborate with our Design team to ensure customers are delighted with how we deliver features, and coordinate closely with other Engineering teams to solve scaling problems and reduce technical debt. Your people leader responsibilities will include keeping your team happy, challenging them with opportunities to grow in their own careers, and bringing on new resources as needed.
Who you are
You’ve managed a team of software engineers before, likely supporting a cloud service, and you can provide your team with mentorship and feedback. You establish clear priorities, and hold your team accountable to your expectations. You love the personal aspects of management as much as solving the technical challenges. You’re focused on delivering value continuously, biasing toward action, making data-driven decisions, and iterating on what you learn. You are bothered by poor user experiences and design inconsistencies. You anticipate the needs of your team, and you understand that often the most valuable thing you can do for them is removing an obstacle or protecting them from an interruption.
