Senior SDET - Quality Engineering

Duo Security, now part of Cisco, is the leading multi-factor authentication (MFA) and Zero Trust Security solutions provider. Duo was built with cloud native technologies from the ground up and is a high scale SaaS-only solution running on AWS.

Our mission is simple: democratize security by making it easy and effective for everyone. We are transforming security from the ground up by solving the world’s most pressing geopolitical challenge — safe, secure information access through Zero Trust Security solutions. We use a human centric product design approach to reduce the complexity and create solutions that are simple to use.

Our work culture is defined by values of “Being kinder than necessary, “Learning together, “Engineering the business” and celebrating diversity of perspectives. A positive and intellectually cultivating environment for employees is the reason Cisco has won the “Best company to work for” three years in a row and earned us the title of “The most loved security company” given by our customers.

Our engineers at all levels lead projects and bring our teams along with them. We value inclusion, empower autonomy, and emphasize software craftsmanship. You embody our values and development culture of collaboration, democracy, testing, CI/CD, data-driven decisions, and mentorship. We prioritize team success highest and tend to swarm on sprint work to meet our shared goals.

What you’ll do

You’ll be a part of Duo’s Quality Engineering team whose mission is to empower engineers with the quality tools, frameworks, and processes to continuously (on demand, anytime) ship high quality code to customers.

As a core member of the Duo Quality Engineering team, you will write code to test our applications for functionality and performance, with an end goal of making security of our cloud and mobile products easy for our customers and end users. You will do this in an environment where continuous integration is in place and code is released to production bi-weekly.

You will partner with engineering teams to build automation frameworks and bake quality in each step of the software development process. You will define, measure, and publish metrics to measure product quality and drive quality improvements. You will understand business priorities and risks, and help focus our quality efforts on where they matter the most.

This is a highly technical role with a core requirement of effective collaboration and communication across engineering team members and attention to detail. Success in this role would be achieved by helping us build, test, automate and deploy Duo’s mobile applications and services swiftly while improving engineering efficiency and developer productivity.

Skills and strengths you'll have…

  • Work on test automation projects up to a 1 quarter time horizon, thereby improving quality across the Engineering Organization.

  • Strong coding abilities in Python or a similar language.

  • Experience in developing test automation using Selenium or a similar framework.

  • Experience with CI tools and automated build systems such as GitLab and Jenkins.

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure in AWS, GCS, or Azure.

  • Experience working with a microservice infrastructure, using containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes, EKS, Rancher, and OpenShift.

  • Experience with data platforms/analytics tools such as Elastic/Opensearch and Kibana, Snowflake, and Datadog.

  • Experience writing mobile native application tests using Swift XCTest, Espresso with Kotlin/Java, and frameworks like Appium.

  • Proven track record of performing under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Motivation and passion to stay on top of new technologies.

  • Attention to detail, dependability, and a passion for continuous improvement.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Partner with all collaborators across engineering to implement test automation frameworks and improve product quality and engineering efficiency.

  • Initiate and facilitate substantial discussions about sophisticated issues.

  • Identify and propose strategies around technical problems affecting the team, communicate standards and get consensus on solutions.

Leadership:

  • Interpret, add to, and complete multi-functional plans.

  • Work with key team members to make critical decisions.

  • Lead initiatives and meetings within the team and functional area.

  • Motivate and empower teammates to achieve a higher level of performance.

  • Garner resources for the whole team to complete its work.

If this role and the security field is exciting to you, we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all 100% of the description or qualifications. If you have been an effective technical contributor to software projects and can show consistent examples of having led others, regardless of role or title, apply.

The collective sum of the individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, and talent that our employees invest in their work represents not only part of our culture, but our reputation and Duo’s achievement as well. Message to applicants applying to work in the U.S. and/or Canada:

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. The recruiter can share more details about compensation for the role in your location during the hiring process.

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
