What You'll Do
You'll be a key player in leading our engineering efforts and helping to build products that implement our product portfolio vision and strategy. The Cisco Secure Network Analytics engineering team is looking for a strong, collaborative Product Owner with energy and enthusiasm for technology and security. As a product owner, you will play a significant role in delivering high-quality security solutions by collaborating with key customers and development teams. You understand that what is being asked is not always the answer and will seek to find solutions that delight our customers. You will look to apply lean startup principles to validate the growth and value potential in all that we do.
Who You'll Work With
Our Cisco Secure Network Analytics team is leading provider of network visibility and security intelligence protecting enterprises against today’s top threats. The team uses innovative technology in an Agile environment to deliver innovative security products. In this highly visible role, you will collaborate with our customers, internal partners and delivery teams to analyze market problems and build prioritized backlogs. You will work closely with engineering teams to define, design and deliver innovative security solutions. You will also be helping coordinate product strategy, release timelines, and product quality. You will follow our solutions to our customers and will work with the people and departments on the way to ensure success.
Who You Are
You can build collaborative relationships and operating models with Product Managers to deliver on the organization’s product vision and strategy. You have experience analyzing and breaking down business problems into deliverable increments that align with the vision and strategy. You can work with one or more teams to delivery timely, quality releases that provide high business value and exceed customer expectations. You have strong experience with Agile principles and can drive our engineering and process improvement efforts applying Agile/Lean Processes. You are experienced in facilitating and breaking down problems in cases where the requirements gathering becomes sophisticated. Comfortable partnering with internal and external customers to define and implement comprehensive plans for customer feedback (Alpha, Beta, etc). You have developed prioritized product backlog by writing user stories and defining priorities for the development team. You validate value and outcomes for your customers. You work with your team to understand the mission and believe that deep team ownership results in better success. You appreciate the feedback from your team members and factor that into the backlog to get the best outcomes for our customers. You possess an inner level of confidence that allows you to lead some days and follow others based on what is needed for the desired outcomes. You are an active learner on a journey with no set destination. You can coordinate activities with other departments such as Operations, Customer Support and Sales Engineering to deliver new product functionality. You can serve as the product subject matter authority that is the liaison between engineering and all other departments.
You are passionate about the changing threat landscape and love the challenge of creating innovation that gives our users the edge against the adversary. You have a strong background in security software and threat analysis and are able to bring that experience to bear on the solutions you create. You can articulate threat strategies, create plans and work with others to deliver on those plans. You can work with other researchers to explore new ideas and run experiments. You can make objective tradeoffs and decisions. You can work with engineers to bring concepts and experiments to production.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4+ years’ experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst or Product Manager designing or developing software
Preferred Qualifications
- BS or Advanced degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, OR equivalent experience in the computer security field
- Experience in the networking and security industries
- Knowledge of secure development practices
- Knowledge of both Virtual and On-Premise Hardware Deployment
- Experience working in an Agile/Lean software environment
- Experience in leading process improvement efforts
- Experience in threat research, threat intelligence, malware reverse engineering, studying indicators of compromise, etc.
- Demonstrates initiative and competence; supports and encourages positive working behaviors in others

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.
Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter. Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.
Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:
.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;
1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;
1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.
For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
