In Cisco’s Data Center, Internet & Cloud Infrastructure and Networking Engineering, we create the future of the internet and define how millions of people and billions of devices connect every day. We are building the infrastructure for the Internet of tomorrow.

You will work with vibrant technical community and interact with some of the most respected experts in Internet & Cloud Infrastructure and Networking as you provide expert engineering support for customer deployments. As an engineer in this team, you will have the opportunity to not only to support some of the world's largest Web scaler and Service Provider networks, but also work with the Product management, Sales and Marketing teams on pro-active customer engagements covering current technologies. You will actively engage engineering architects and technical subject matter experts in product development contributing to product quality, debuggability and customer technical requirements.



Your Impact

As an Experienced Network Escalation engineer, within Cisco’s Internet & Cloud Infrastructure Engineering, you’ll play a critical role in enabling customers to deploy our products and solutions quickly, securely, and confidently. You are an accomplished technical engineer with experience in building resilient, scalable, and secure platforms using opensource and commercial software. You are also passionate, care about customer success, and inspire others to feel the same.

  • Actively engage, take ownership and drive to resolution critical customer escalations in Cisco Nexus Hyperfabric portfolio
  • Provide expert support and be a critical point of contact for technical and operational issues that require engineering expertise to resolve
  • Apply expert technical knowledge and analytical skills to solve product and network problems of high complexity.
  • Act as a technical expert in data center, switching and routing technologies and provide expert engineering support on a world-wide basis
  • Actively engage with Cisco’s customer facing teams and travel to customer sites if needed
  • Work on problems of diverse scope software/hardware/configuration/design
  • Provide proper root cause analysis for customers, CX, and customer facing organizations
  • Effectively utilize lab setups to recreate and solve complex problems in systems that can be due to configuration, software or hardware defects
  • Be an active technical and resolution-oriented liaison between engineering and both Cisco customer facing teams/customer
  • Identify systematic product problems and drive plans with respective teams for long term solutions providing better customer experience and product/solution stability

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in STEM with 8 or more years’ experience working in networking engineering
  • Demonstrated background in data center networking, routing, switching (layer 2 forwarding, spanning-tree), router/switch architecture and Network Infrastructure and Management Technologies such as QOS, BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, ACI, LACP, MC-LAG
  • Experience with virtualization (ESXi and others), containers, Kubernetes, cloud networking, AWS infrastructure
  • Experience with Data Center automation tools like Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience with Linux and open-source technologies
  • Demonstrated experience in C, C++, or Python
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting networking issues in live customer environments to effectively diagnose and resolve problems

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with internal Cisco organization and eco-system (BU, AS, TS, PLM, Operations)
  • Experience with SONiC NOS
  • CCIE Data Center & Service Provider
  • Master’s Degree in STEM
  • Practical knowledge and experience with Artificial Intelligence concepts and applications

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.

Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter.  Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
