What You’ll Do

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team at Cisco drives the technology that is redefining how IT departments secure their networks, and more significantly, their users! At its core, we provide Infrastructure as a Service for engineering in dozens of our “edge” and “core” data centers. As a Network Operations Center (NOC) Manager for the APAC region, you are a vital member responsible for recruiting, building and supervising the day-to-day activities of a team of 6 NOC engineers. You will work closely with your counterparts in the Americas and APAC to develop and operate Standard Operating Procedures and ensure a seamless follow-the-sun coverage. Success in this role is highly reliant on your ability to optimally prioritize and manage critical incident issues, lead and develop a fully remote NOC team, collaborate with internal partners, and optimally communicate NOC activities to the leadership team.

Whom You’ll Work With

Infrastructure Engineering consists of Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering and Security Engineering - together, we build core Internet infrastructure, security applications and distributed systems at scale. Our environment processes millions of DNS and Proxy requests per second, across 40 datacenters and global cloud infrastructure providers.

About you

You’ve been a manager or a team leader of a NOC or a similar support function and thrive in that environment. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with management and technical skills to put their abilities to work in an exciting growth environment. As a manager of this team, you will lead, inspire and coach our engineers to operate a large-scale network and services built upon our infrastructure. You understand the importance of teamwork to find the best solution. You have heard of NAT, BGP, VxLAN or GRE.

This role could be a good fit for you if several of these apply to you:

  • You enjoy leading and building an operations team that is responsible for network infrastructure.
  • You already lead a team of engineers or have worked as a senior network engineer for a large-scale cloud-based service, enjoy training and mentoring junior team members and want to move into people management.
  • You value building interpersonal relationships and understand the importance of having team members that you can rally behind an initiative together.
  • You are interested in operating large-scale cloud-based services. You know your way around a Unix terminal yourself and have built or deployed applications using various cloud technologies yourself.
  • You love learning and paying it forward by inspiring others. Small teams that do big things need big ideas and people interested in bringing these ideas to fruition.
  • You want to build and operate cloud-based solutions with security in mind. Our services are used by millions of users every day worldwide; this gets you excited.

Your typical day will vary, but this is what you will be doing:

  • Supervising the day-to-day activities of a group of NOC engineers.
  • Ensure incidents are worked in a timely manner and with quality and what can’t be fixed is turned over to the next shift.
  • Triage trouble tickets for technical support and aim to resolution.
  • Be an incident coordinator for critical issues and coordinate support from different teams.
  • Be a point of escalation for NOC teams and will be expected to be an active participant leading major incident calls.
  • Develop policies and procedures to enhance workflow efficiencies and ensure SLA compliance.
  • Own the team in documenting standard operating procedures and creating runbooks from lesson learned before resolving tickets.
  • Work to continuously improve NOC monitoring and alerting.
  • Participate in weekend leadership on call rotation for impacting incidents and escalations.
  • Be able to develop a strategy for the NOC organization, either through your own research, articles or comparison/collaboration with other companies using a NOC.
  • Guide your team through fixing major incidents and continuously train and strengthen the team to become amazing engineers.

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do – you can’t put us in a box!

But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.
