What You'll Do

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with the platform engineering mechanical team  in San Jose, California. The job involves working on current and next-generation mechanical designs of telecom systems.

High-Level Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver fixed or modular chassis and cards that meets system product requirements.
  • Perform detailed 2D tolerance analysis for complex electro-mechanical assemblies using spreadsheet and/or 3D tolerance analysis tool such as CETol.
  • Design and develop innovative mechanical solutions using sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast that meets EMI, safety and compliance requirements.
  • Develop 3D CAD model using Creo or NX.
  • Create detailed drawings by applying Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning (GD&T) principles.
  • Participate in resolution of issues by working closely with manufacturing team and supplier and developing mitigation plans.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (HW, SI, CAD, Thermal, Manufacturing, etc.) to negotiate requirements and evaluate technical risks and tradeoffs.
  • Design heat sinks using guidance from thermal simulations and create the drawings and 3D files to prototype and manufacture the parts.
  • Define printed circuit board (PCB) size(s), outlines, and keep outs. Exchange IDF with ECAD engineer, develop sheet-metal/ plastic enclosures to meet intended performance and cost targets.
  • Collaborate with thermal engineers to design and implement cooling solutions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing team on DFM/DFA/production issues
  • Teamwork: the candidate must be able to communicate well with cross-functional team members, be able to efficiently collaborate with team members to achieve project goals, and contribute positively to the engineering community.
  • Provide technical design guidance and mentoring for junior engineers
  • Work with US team (HW & Mech) different time zone
  • Must meet minimum English proficient level for speaking and writing

Who You’ll Work With

You will be working very closely with the rest of our Mechanical/Thermal group, which is a dedicated team with foundations of innovation, teamwork, open communication, and customer success. You’ll also work cross-functionally with Hardware Engineering, Product Management/Marketing, Product Operations, Global Supplier Management (GSM), External Vendors/Suppliers, Manufacturing Operations, and EMS/JDM partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 7+ years of EMS design experience
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in design of compute/network products preferred
  • Proficient in use of 3D MCAD tools (Creo/NX).
  • Experience in sheet metal design for medium to high volume production
  • Proficient in tolerance analysis and statistical analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of GD&T principles and tolerance analysis
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must meet English proficient level CET 6 or equivalent in both verbal/written

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid knowledge in manufacturing tooling for sheet metal, plastic, and die-casting
  • Experience in designing plastic and die-cast parts
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Mechanism design experience a plus
  • Some experience in performing static and dynamic analysis using tools such as Creo Simulate or ANSYS.
  • An excellent team player who is willing to work as a team to find the best solution for the product

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
