Roles of Director, Japan Strategy, Planning and Operations Lead:

This position is the right-hand adviser for Cisco Japan’s Country Head and the critical orchestration of Japan’s Senior Leadership Team. As a part of the regional organization in APJC (Asia Pacific Japan and China), this position will lead Japan Strategy, Planning, and Operations team responsible for driving both topline growth and profitability improvement through connecting strategic visions and day-to-day business management. The team’s role has five pillars.

Growth Strategy:
Articulate and evolve Country-level strategies continuously to achieve market-beating topline growth in a profitable manner
Align all organizations in Cisco Japan under the umbrella of Country-level strategies
Incubate strategic initiatives such as new partnership and alliances
GTM Model Evolution:
Lead market segmentation to design sales coverage model targeted to the needs of specific customer segments
Play PMO role in cross-functional initiatives targeted to drive company-wide transformation toward recurring business model
Manage multi-year transition of the changes
Resource Planning and Mobilization:
Allocate resources across Cisco Japan based on the strategic priorities and growth prospects in changing market environment
Design and execute organizational structure changes
Set goals and incentives to all sales agents to drive desired outcome
Drive sales training and skill development efforts to enable both short-term growth and long-term transformation
Lead productivity improvement initiatives
Management Review Cadence:
Organize regular business reviews as the key Plan-Do-Check-Action cycle to supervise businesses across Cisco Japan, solve problems in a timely manner, and enable progresses
Provide update to the Worldwide and APJC leadership
Market and Business Intelligence:
Collect, analyze, and share key insights to enable informed decisions at all levels
Monitor alarming signs on business performance, market share, and competitors to trigger alerts and call to actions in a timely manner

Minimum skills and experience required for Director, Japan Strategy, Planning and Operations Lead:

More than 3 years of experience either at (a) engagement manager or above position in Tier-1 management consulting firms, or (b) the leadership role in corporate strategy and planning in large multinational companies
Proven record of solving complex problems in a cross-functional, cross-cultural, and high-pressure environment
Ability to communicate effectively with, and influence executives (both Japanese and foreign)
“Kaizen Mindset” to continuously improve any of existing processes
More than 5 years of experience in leading a team
More than 15 years of total work experience
Native level Japanese and business-level English for both written and verbal communication
MBA from Tier-1 business schools in English speaking countries
Strong passion in innovative technologies that can change the world

Desired skills and experience required for Director, Japan Strategy, Planning and Operations Lead:

More than 5 years of filed work experience in Japan’s IT industry either as a sales or an engineer
Experience in working outside Japan
Strong interest in cybersecurity
