The Italy Cisco Engineering HW design team has the design responsibility of Cisco Optical Networking products (www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/optical-networking/product-listing.html).

This responsibility covers the full product cycle from the initial specification to the delivery in field and includes also the sustaining and maintenance to provide the best customer experience with our products.

The selected candidate will work as member of HW design and development team in the Cisco Italy (Vimercate) design center, developing new products in the High-End Routing and Optical market segments.

Your Impact

We’re selecting an HW design engineer with university skills and professional experience in FPGA design including component selection and RTL coding/simulation. Key role of the FPGA design engineer is to work in a global environment to design, validate and bring to production complex and dense electronic blades with high-speed signals and complex ASICS / Optical Components.

The FPGA design engineer will interface with x-functional teams like HW PCBA design, Diagnostic and SW teams, Manufacturing and Product Engineering to develop high quality products.

Mandatory Experience during the university courses and professional experience on RTL code development (VERILOG/VHDL) for FPGA and complex programmable design.

In addition the FPGA design Engineer play a key role supporting the product during the entire life cycle providing code fixes to address issues impacting manufacturing / customers or supporting feature enhancement as well as possible redesign on newer FPGA chips for cost reduction activities.

  • FPGA and SoC specification
  • RTL code design (VERILOG / VHDL), Verification and simulations
  • Database management with configuration control standard tools
  • Lab feature testing and integration with SW
  • Bug tracking and fixing

Job role requires onsite presence (Hybrid job but with presence on site 90% of the time) requiring presence in lab for HW design development and test

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer engineering or Electrical Engineering or Telecommunication or Physics with 1+year of experience in electronic laboratories of structured companies
  • FPGA device selection, specification, pinout definition and support to schematic entry. RTL design, coding, simulation, and test in laboratory
  • Synthesis, implementation, and timing analysis.
  • SoC / CPLD / FPGA design with high level languages (RTL)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of FPGA design and implementation processes, verification emulation/debugging methodologies and tools in the Telecom/networking area is a plus
  • Coordination of FPGA development with Cisco INDIA and STO (Cisco security and trust) central teams or similar skill
  • Knowledge of Xilinx, Altera and Microchip technologies
  • Excellent teamwork attitude, able to work in multicultural teams, fluent written and oral English language
  • Self-motivated, and highly autonomous with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Creative problem-solving skills and excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills
  • Data communications or telecommunications and knowledge of major peripheral devices (Ram, Flash, UART, Ethernet Controller, Multiport Ram) is a plus

For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter.  Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
