Ensoft, Early In Career, Software Engineer - United Kingdom

Start Date:Sept 2025

Positions are expected to open later in the academic year. To express your interest, please apply above, and we’ll get in touch once these roles become available.

We currently have opportunities availale for recent graduates from 2023 and 2024 who are ready to start immediately! We'll review your CV and be in touch shortly.

Location: Harpenden

What You’ll Do:

You will be working as a software developer, on a team responsible for delivering groundbreaking software technology that helps to run the Internet, delivered to an outstanding quality. From the very start of your career you will be faced with the challenge of developing the very latest networking software - everything from the initial ideas and design through to code, test, delivery and support - and we train and support you to do so to exceptional standards.

You will be based in our office in Harpenden, close to the station and with a very fast connection into London. Harpenden is an attractive town, which thanks to its excellent commute has a thriving centre with shops, bars and restaurants. Close by is the city of St Albans, bringing a wider social scene (theatres, clubs, a wider selection of bars) and all the facilities offered by a modern city. By road, both the M1 and M25 are easily accessible by car.

Who You'll Work With:

You’ll be working alongside incredibly passionate individuals, like yourself, with a shared enthusiasm for software development. Cisco’s Ensoft team is entirely made up of people recruited as energetic, exceptional indivduals who have developed into all the roles that make up our team today - from the management team to the industry leading technical experts.

We have a really friendly culture. It is a sign of how well people get on that employees arrange so many activities together in their spare time. This is on top of the many company funded social events arranged by our social team including team celebrations, walking weekends away, weekly five a side football, annual Christmas and Summer parties, and many other one-off events.

Who You Are and What You Need To Be Eligible:

  • You must want a career developing software - that's what we do!
  • Some software experience is useful, but absolutely not crucial. It's great to find individuals who spend their spare time writing code, who want to turn their creative outlet into a successful career. But we can also train individuals who have the right potential to shine at software engineering; our primary criteria for recruiting are potential and passion rather than what you happen to already know
  • Finally, you must be sociable. The process is collaborative, so you should enjoy working closely with the other people in your team.
  • Oh, by the way, we believe that we are creating an exceptional team, so you need a pride and passion for your work and should expect to work with us for many years.

Why Cisco ?

We connect everything: people, processes, data, and things. We innovate everywhere, taking bold risks to shape the technologies that give you smart cities, connected cars, and handheld hospitals. And we do it in style with unique personalities who aren’t afraid to change the way the world works, lives, plays and learns. We celebrate the creativity and diversity that fuels our innovation. We are dreamers and we are doers. We Are Cisco.

Message to applicants applying to work in the U.S. and/or Canada:

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. The recruiter can share more details about compensation for the role in your location during the hiring process.

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
