At Meraki, we are making IT easier, faster, and smarter by building technology that simply works. Meraki’s Dashboard drastically simplifies the process of deploying, configuring and running distributed networks, enabling customers to focus on what's most meaningful to them: their students, patients, customers, and businesses. Dashboard serves millions of customer devices that provide network access to hundreds of millions of clients every day from 8 data centers around the world!

As Director of Site Reliability Engineering, you will lead a group of globally distributed engineering teams based in San Francisco, London, and Sydney. Leading these teams you will ensure that Dashboard is reliable, secure and efficient today as well as helping build a roadmap for transformations in architecture and platform required to support our rapid growth into the future.

You will work across the organization with counterparts in other engineering groups to advise on issues related to operational efficiency. Most importantly, you will be a strong mentor for your managers and their teams, nurturing a collaborative environment where your teams can do their best work. This is a very high impact role.

  • Mentor SRE managers and senior engineers through technical and non-technical challenges

  • Guide managers through regular planning cycles

  • Work with SRE managers, senior engineering leaders, and Product Management to help set the technical vision and short/long-term plans for Meraki’s cloud platform and infrastructure

  • Encourage thoughtful and creative ways to recognize achievements on the team

  • Partner with our recruiters to create strategies for building diverse and inclusive teams

  • Develop career plans for your direct reports and help them do the same for theirs

  • Provide thoughtful counsel as a member of senior engineering leadership

  • Assist with engineering-wide initiatives such as process evolution, training, and offsites

  • Be a champion for SRE practices across the wider engineering organization and work with other engineering managers to grow our culture of automation and reliability

  • Provide visibility to senior leadership about the aggregate health and efficiency of the Meraki cloud ecosystem

You are an ideal candidate if:

  • You have 10+ years of experience developing and operating systems for large production environments. Our stack is primarily ansible, elk, ruby, and bash, but your experience might be with comparable tools

  • You have managed teams of 20+ engineers through other managers

  • You have experience building rapidly growing systems that balance time to market, usability, reliability, and technical debt

  • You believe that development and operations are best carried out in close co-operation

  • You have experience running systems both in public cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) as well as private data centers

  • You have experience building teams, making decisions on recruiting and organization design

  • You have empathy and emotional intelligence to lead a diverse and distributed group of engineers and managers at varying stages of their careers

Does this sound like you? We’d love to hear from you.
