About the team...

The Cisco SBG (Security Business Group) Design Systems team will influence and lead Cisco SBG into the next evolution of common design and user experience. By using a unified design systems approach, the SBG Design Systems team will enable product teams to implement consistent, reusable, and accessible components and design patterns across the security portfolio with high speed and efficiency. The team is responsible for owning the overall design system visual direction, front-end system architecture strategy, and continued maintenance. Additionally, the team focuses on modern design aesthetics and relentlessly pursues cross-function SBG collaboration and innovation.

What You’ll Do

The SBG Design Systems team is looking for an experienced Design Systems Creative Director who is passionate about design and understands the value of a seamless and consistent user experience. This person will manage and develop a team of designers and engineers and foster a culture of design-led thinking to help reach Cisco Security business goals. Additionally, this person will lead, guide, and govern our design language; develop and evolve our component library and help define the overall direction of the look and feel. This is a role that will challenge and push the organization’s existing design systems further - continuously identifying opportunities and spearheading efforts to expand and enhance the system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of expert system designers and engineers, bringing the highest standard of design practices
  • Own the overall vision and direction of the SBG design system
  • Collaborate closely with internal team members, as well as Researchers, Program and Product Managers, to drive system creation, adoption, and technical implementation initiatives.
  • Lead design system projects from beginning to end and establishes meaningful metrics and success criteria to ensure consistency of user experience
  • Bring the highest level of design standards and practices and emphasizes the importance of modern design aesthetic
  • Provide creative direction and mentorship to team members
  • Bring operational knowledge and workflow excellence to managing the team including resource decisions
  • Clearly communicate design rationale to product teams and internal stakeholders. Makes decisions based on user research as well as design experience.
  • Work closely with other UX leaders to strengthen design processes and culture and facilitate a design system centered approach to building experiences in every area of our organization
  • Stay informed of advances in culture, academia, and industry and applies that knowledge to enhance the Cisco Security portfolio.

Experience you bring includes...

  • 15+ years of design/creative experience, 2+ years of design systems experience
  • A history of building and leading teams that are both technical and creative.
  • Deep expertise in visual design, interaction design, information architecture.
  • Deep knowledge of common design patterns and practices.
  • A consistent record of conceiving, crafting, building, and delivering best in class design solutions
  • Expert-level knowledge of Figma, including how to create developer consumable components, utilizing new Figma functionality such as variants and auto layout.
  • Experience in designing for accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Nice to have:
  • Fluency in front-end tech stacks demonstrated by basic HTML/CSS/JS development experience.
  • Experience in designing for accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Experience in motion, animation, and illustration and can provide examples of prior projects.
