We are seeking a Technical Leader who can participate in architecture design, technical requirements definition, and engineering execution. This individual will be collaborating with Executive Leadership, Product Management, and Customers to drive the success of our latest groundbreaking security innovation, Cisco Hypershield!

What You Will Do

The Backend Technical Leader role works alongside our VP of Security Innovation to develop the backend of the Management Plane driving our next-generation security product, Cisco Hypershield. The management plane is responsible for managing and monitoring and is the brains of our product. As a leader, you will identify and solve obstacles to achieving our vision.

In this role, you should expect to review existing technologies, identify areas to leverage and drive improvement, and create groundbreaking new technology from scratch. You will be part of a small team driving the next evolution of security at Cisco and beyond and must be a self-starter able to work under minimal direction.

You will be looked to both internally and externally Cisco for your expertise, and as such must have deep experience in firewalls, secure web gateways, and/or SASE/SSE. You will use this knowledge coupled with your ambition to write high-quality, production-ready code to re-invent security with us.

Who You Are

You are an innovative software engineering leader, interested in influencing the opinions and decision-making of senior executives and/or major customers on matters of significance to the organization. You are comfortable in design discussions with other architects and engineers. You can present architecture designs and solutions to multiple teams across organizations, gathering feedback that will help us drive consensus and gain alignment. You are not afraid to be creative, and use innovative programming languages, technologies, and tools to drive groundbreaking new products.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of programming experience with Typescript, GoLang, C, Javascript or similar languages
  • Prior experience designing backend solutions for enterprise-grade products
  • Experience developing new product features from scratch
  • Development experience in a linux environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience integrating third party solutions in areas of network security, management and monitoring
  • Strong background in network security, protocols and policies. (e.g. firewalls, secure web gateways, and/or SASE/SSE)
  • Familiarity with AI/ML and in particular, Large Language Models
  • Experience working alongside UX/UI Design, Product and senior management
  • Experience leading development teams and being a mentor to more junior developers

For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
