The Associate Software Engineer will be a hands-on developer, interacting with cross-functional engineering teams to develop embedded software for Acacia’s rapidly growing and expanding product portfolio. The individual will be a member of Acacia’s Software team and contribute to the software life cycle of our products and will work within a multi-disciplinary Hardware, Software, Optics, and DSP engineering organization. The Associate Software Engineer will produce high quality code that is robust and maintainable.

Key Essential Functions: 

  • Collaborate with other team members to drive product quality thru enhancing the regression tests and test environment
  • Development and maintenance of in-house tools to increase the team’s productivity
  • Graphical User Interface software development
  • Troubleshooting software bugs within Acacia’s real-time embedded firmware
  • Hands on experience with state of the art fiber optic telecommunication systems in a laboratory environment
  • Data acquisition and trend analysis

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications:

  • BS or MS (preferred) in Computer Engineering, Electronics or Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of experience in embedded software development and support in the telecommunications industry
  • Proficiency in C# or C++, knowledge of scripting languages preferably Python™
  • Experience with RTOS and embedded CPUs and microcontrollers (ARM® preferred)
  • Experience with a revision control and defect tracking systems (Perforce™, GIT, Bugzilla, JIRA)
  • Self-motivated, good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Organized and be able to manage their time well

Highly Desired Skills:

  • Experience working within a team environment developing embedded software in a multi-processor/multithreaded environment
  • Experience with collaborative code review tools (such as Jira Crucible®)
  • Enjoys working in lab environments, likes to be challenged to understand system and figure out ways to break it
  • Ability to handle minimally defined or ambiguous tasks
  • Previous internship experience
