The Cisco Customer Experience team is a global organization charged with providing world class services to our customer base. CX does the Plan-Design-Implement and Optimize phases of new technologies, providing complex design, performance and optimization services to the largest networks in the world. Additionally, the CX team is in the vanguard of Advanced Technology implementation of Cisco leading edge technologies worldwide with some of the best technical experts in the industry.

As Cisco Systems continues to grow as the industry leader in networking, this dynamic group is hiring numerous entry-level Consulting Engineers (CE). Individuals will be hired from a broad base of diverse candidates including those holding a CCNA or CCNP certification or those simply looking to enter and advance in the IT industry. This is an excellent growth opportunity to gain a consultative approach while developing valuable networking infrastructure and other Cisco Solutions knowledge.

CE delivers the technology, solutions and services customers need to expertly manage their networks. In this role, you will be completing customer-facing projects while working in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver, comfortable with challenging the status quo and rapidly responding to escalated issues. With a seasoned mix of broad networking knowledge and specific area expertise, as well as excellent Customer Relationship Management (CRM) skills, you will continue to strengthen your skill sets while building solid, long-term relationships with customers.

High Level Role Description

  • Drives technology design, implementation, execution and/or optimization for customer projects/accounts.
  • Works with customers to plan, design, configure and/or diagnose Cisco’s suite of products, services and solutions to accelerate customer outcomes
  • Assists customers with integration and implementation of tools, systems and service assurance
  • Supports presale activities and translate business requirements into solution design
  • Builds customer simulations in test labs to resolve/validate complex problems and compatibility issues
  • Creates and delivers customer collateral, portals, documentation and knowledge transfer
  • Aligns technical deliverables to customer business outcomes
  • Drives customer technology transitions, influencing solution architectures and services
  • Complies with and supports company policies and processes and utilizes relevant tools to effectively execute the role and support Professional Services’ strategies and goals

Cisco Consulting Engineer First Year Responsibilities:

  • Developing knowledge as a network infrastructure specialist in core IP routing and switching and advanced technologies
  • Attending and participating in technical and professional trainings (in-person, remote, and through self-study)
  • Additional certifications testing – CCNP, CCIE lab, DevNet Associate, and so on will be encouraged within the first 12 months
  • Completing assignments with a high degree of client and customer satisfaction

Cisco Consulting Engineer Long-term responsibilities:

  • Support delivery of service contracts to major accounts
  • Review customer’s requirements and produce recommendation including high- and low-level designs
  • Plan and execute site surveys, complex network upgrade and network migration activity
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex customer network infrastructure problems across a broad range of technologies
  • Act as a technical focal point for large account network infrastructure problem resolution
  • Generate reusable Intellectual Capital in the form of standard customer deliverables

The qualifications to become an Consulting Engineer are:

  • Candidate should have demonstrated an ongoing interest in the information technology and/or the computer networking industry

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.

Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter.  Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
